What is an allotment?

Allotment plots are leased areas of land for the use of growing fruit and vegetables. Some ornamental and cut flowers can also be grown as well as the keeping of certain livestock. Hens, ducks, rabbits, pigeons and bees can be kept on our sites, subject to certain stipulations.

It is important to understand, that our allotments are available for non commercial use only and you may not sell any produce that you grow on our sites.

Why have an allotment?

Allotments can be very beneficial in a number of ways. Not only are they beneficial for your physical health but also your mental health and wellbeing. They provide an opportunity to meet other gardening enthusiasts as well as enable you to grow your own fresh fruit and vegetables. On top of that, an allotment can be very beneficial to the environment and wildlife too.

How do I get an allotment plot?

We keep a waiting list for those who would like to apply for an allotment. Waiting times are normally 12+ months.

Before you apply for an allotment, it is important to consider how much time you have to dedicate to maintaining your plot and apply for the most suitable sized plot. We offer half and full size plots but these all vary in size somewhat.

To ensure there is fair access for all, every plot is subject to regular plot assessments. This not only helps keep our sites in good use, it also means that under worked and neglected plots aren't left to run wild.

If you would like to find out more about applying for an allotment on either of our sites, please get in touch.
